GoodHealthTV® introduces a newly animated character to its health awareness program. The creation of Arnold is the result of a collaborative effort between the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities, several entities within the North Dakota Department of Health, and the American Diabetes Association—North Dakota Affiliate.
Arnold, a newly animated character series designed by GoodHealthTV®, focuses on balancing the keys to good health which are caring for your body, mind, heart, and spirit. Arnold, together with his family, address common health concerns for the American Indian and Alaska Native peoples. Specific episodes feature such topics as diabetes, amputation, and disability etiquette. Upcoming installments will feature heart disease, tobacco cessation, and dental care.
A major health concern of American Indians and Alaska Natives is diabetes. They have the highest rates of type 2 diabetes in the United States. Once exclusively a disease among adults, type 2 diabetes is increasing among native youth. Arnold addresses the concern of diabetes while relating to both adult and youth audiences.
Placement of GoodHealthTV® broadcasts in clinic and health care facilities turns patient wait time health education opportunities. Community members are also connected with existing health programs and announcements. The “Arnold” series is just one of many programs aired on GoodHealthTV® to educate and raise awareness about a variety of health topics. GoodHealthTV® programming is currently featured at more than 40 locations in eleven states.
